Genetics Resource Centre (GRC)

Genetics Resource Centre (GRC) was established in September 2012 by Maj Gen (R) Suhaib Ahmed, HI (M) to fight against common genetic disorders in Pakistan. Thalassaemia, being the commonest single gene disorder, is our main area of interest. We are the largest centre in Pakistan that provides comprehensive facility of carrier testing, fetal sampling, and prenatal diagnosis of thalassaemia. Each year we do over 1000 prenatal diagnoses. The GRC Lab has been recently expanded to provide high quality diagnostic testing at an affordable price. Our dedicated team of workers, state of the art equipment and high quality reagent kits ensure the quality of work.

Genetic Technology Instrumentation (GTI) is an exclusive division of GRC that focuses on development of low cost lab equipment for genetic analysis. We have developed several high-tech instruments that may be used to set-up a complete DNA Lab. These instruments can be equally useful for the diagnostic labs as well as R & D institutions like universities and colleges across Pakistan and many developing countries.

GRC also provides an open forum for learning and exchange of information on genetic disorders and related problems. We are focused on development of low-cost solutions for the common genetic disorders in Pakistan. Our R & D team is constantly working on novel ideas and we would warmly welcome anyone willing to work on such ideas.

GRC aims at:

    • Providing information, genetic counselling and high quality diagnostic testing for the common genetic disorders in Pakistan.
    • Development of cost-effective diagnostic kits for genetic testing.
    • Development of low-cost lab equipment for genetic analysis.
    • Providing forum for learning and exchange of information on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of genetic disorders in Pakistan.
    • Conducting research in developing low-cost solutions for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of genetic disorders in Pakistan.
    • Establishing national registries of common genetic disorders in Pakistan.
